Two Characters, One Player!?

You may have noticed imagery of our two main characters in our game. Elena the girl, and Newt, the newt. Elena and Newt are shown below.

Now, our game is a single-player game. You might be wondering, “Why did we choose a single-player game and not a co-op one with one person being Elena and the other being Newt?” One reason was to widen the audience of our game. We did not want to have any level of difficulty when playing our game. For example, having a multiplayer requirement of two means that a person would have to find another person that is willing to play and is free to play at that time. We felt that would deter many people from playing our game if they can’t get someone, or decide not to get a partner to play with.

The other reason was because of Newt’s main transformation ability. When Newt transforms into a copy of an object, the player is unable to move or control him. Meaning, they would have to wait until the other player interacts with them, but even then the Newt player doesn’t get to do anything during the interaction. That would not be fun for the Newt player. So, by making the game single-player, the one player would get to play all of the fun parts of Newt then can swap to Elena to avoid the boring waiting. We feel confident in having our gameplay in a single-player fashion.

P.S. If you are wondering why we didn’t do both, single-player and multiplayer. It would be too much to fit in our time scope.
